On the 45th Anniversary of His Death Ord. Prof. Dr. Ziyaeddin Fahri FINDIKOGLU "Commemoration Meeting’’ was held by Erzurum Technical University Center for Economic and Social Research and the Faculty of Literature at Faculty of Letters conference hall. The opening speech was given by the Rector of Erzurum Technical University Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak. The meeting where Prof. Dr. Dilaver Düzgün, Prof. Dr. Hasan Haluk Erdem, Prof. Dr. Ali Utku and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kemal Bakır participated as speakers was welcomed with interest by many academics, students and guests.

In the meeting, it was emphasized that Ziyaeddin Fahri Fındıkoğlu (1901-1974) as one of the rare personalities growth by Erzurum and a qualified scientist, served for the national development with his scientific studies and for Erzurum with his organization work. During the meeting, the following statements were outlined: Ord. Prof. Dr. Ziyaeddin Fahri  Fındıkoğlu is  a scientist with important contributions to the institutionalization of sociology in Turkey. Rather than being a sociologist dealing only with the problems of society at the theoretical level, he is a societal person who seeks to make practical contributions to the solution of society's problems. For this reason, as a necessity of being a qualified sociologist, he approached social reality in a holistic perspective and worked in many fields of social sciences such as folk literature, folklore, philosophy, education, law, economics and history. Ziyaeddin Fahri Fındıkoğlu, devoted himself to the development of the country, the problems of Anatolia and the people of Anatolia, and above all to the problems of this country. He questioned the possibility of modernization and national development by preserving the essence without denying and ignoring the national and spiritual values of the country and sought ways to reach from the local to the universal. In this way, he tried to establish a local and national thought tradition in Turkey. He paid attention to be an independent individual and then  to make moral choices with this freedom. Fındıkoğlu, who connects the way that a society can exist in a modern and moral way in a modern and prosperous way has cared much about universality and aimed to gain a universal character to the national one without losing its essence by using it as a methodological framework.

At the end of the meeting, Erzurum Technical University Rector. Prof.  Dr. Bülent Çakmak presented certificate of appreciation to the speakers. Moreover, it was stated that a cultural trip will be organized to the village where Fındıkoğlu was born on 16 Novermber, 2019.
