About Erasmus+

About Erasmus+ and its General Structure

Erasmus+ is a European Union grant program covering education, youth, and sport, implemented between 2021 and 2027. The aim of the Erasmus+ Program is to provide individuals with new skills, strengthen their personal development, and increase their employment opportunities, regardless of their age or educational background. The total budget for the Erasmus+ Program across Europe for the years 2021-2027 is €28.4 billion.

Activities supported under the Erasmus+ Program are primarily grouped under 3 Key Actions (KA) and 1 Special Action.

This program is a European Union program aimed at encouraging cooperation between higher education institutions and the business world.

It provides non-reimbursable financial support for higher education institutions to develop and implement joint projects and to carry out short-term student and staff exchanges. In addition, it encourages increased relations and cooperation between higher education institutions and the business world in order to develop the higher education system in line with the needs of the business world and to increase the employability of university graduates in the business world.

The aim of the program is to improve the quality of higher education in Europe. It strives to achieve this goal by promoting international cooperation between higher education institutions; by enabling the mobility of students and higher education institution personnel in Europe; and by contributing to the development of academic recognition and transparency of studies and degrees obtained in participating countries.

On the other hand, in Europe, which offers higher quality higher education, graduates will be better equipped and more responsive to the expectations of the business world. Through the mobility opportunities it offers, the program also serves to break down prejudices in the perceptions of European peoples towards each other within higher education circles.

With the Erasmus+ Program;

The Comenius, Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, and Grundtvig programs, which were previously implemented under the Lifelong Learning Programs, along with the Youth Program and 5 international cooperation programs (Erasmus Mundus, Tempus, Alfa, Edulink, and the Cooperation with Industrialized Countries Program), are brought together under the Erasmus+ Program. This single program introduces simpler application rules and procedures, eliminating fragmentation and duplication.

A grant guarantee program is being implemented to support graduate students in continuing their education abroad and acquiring the skills necessary to work in knowledge-intensive jobs.

The Bilateral Cooperation in Higher Education program, previously implemented, remains a central project of the Erasmus+ Program, now also encompassing the youth sector. However, the scope of countries with which cooperation is possible is expanding (Please refer to the Erasmus+ Programme Guide for detailed information on countries with which cooperation is possible).

Large-scale partnerships (Knowledge Partnerships) aimed at increasing creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship between higher education institutions and workplaces by offering new teaching methods, and partnerships between education and training institutions/organizations to increase employability through innovative vocational education and training methods for specific sectors (Sectoral Skills Partnerships) are being established.

Mobility and partnership opportunities are significantly strengthened in the new period, and grant opportunities are increased, especially for higher education/vocational training students, teachers, trainers, and youth workers.

Which Areas Will Erasmus+ Support?

Activities supported under the Erasmus+ Programme are primarily grouped under three main headings:

Key Action 1: Learning Mobility of Individuals

Key Action 2: Cooperation for Innovation and Exchange of Good Practices

Key Action 3: Support for Policy Reform

Special Action 1: Sport Support

Special Action 2: Jean Monnet Programme

General information regarding these headings can be summarized as follows:

Key Action 1: Learning Mobility of Individuals

The Erasmus+ Programme provides individual learning opportunities for more than 5 million people within and/or outside the EU. Individual mobility activities may take the following forms:

Education

Learning/Teaching

Internships

Professional development

Youth activities based on non-formal learning

Volunteer work

In the field of higher education, beneficiaries in program countries will have the opportunity to study and teach at higher education institutions within Europe or anywhere in the world. In this way, Erasmus+ will create a favorable environment for increasing interest in higher education in Europe and also for developing higher education in countries outside of Europe.

KEY ACTION 2: COOPERATION FOR INNOVATION AND EXCHANGE OF BEST PRACTICES
