Erzurum Technical University (ETÜ) Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak was the guest of TRT Erzurum Radio at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture on the first day of the 2023-2024 Academic Year.

Rector Bülent Çakmak, who gave information to the audience about education issues and the social, cultural and sports opportunities that ETÜ offers to its students on the first class day of the new academic year, stated that he continues to take courses at undergraduate and graduate levels in addition to his duty as Rector and said: “Administration takes up a large part of our time. However, teaching at the academy and being in close contact with students is very important in terms of being in the field. Being in touch with our students gives us the opportunity to convey their problems to me firsthand. "In this sense, our students are very pleased to see a Rector in their classes and directly convey their problems and demands, if any," he said.

Rector Çakmak, a faculty member of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, gave advice to new students at the university and said: “I teach the Electronics 1 course and this course is one of the basic courses of our department. "My students are studying in a department that requires hard work, and therefore they need to work hard from the first lesson," he said.

Rector Çakmak, speaking with the TRT Radio team in front of the classroom where he will be teaching, stated that ETÜ Faculty of Engineering and Architecture is a green building certified by the American Green Buildings Council and said: "As we are a technical university, we paid attention to the fact that our building has a more distinguished and distinguishable feature during its construction. In this direction, we adopted the green building concept and went through the necessary stages and registered our building as a silver class green building. Our students are currently actively studying in 8 of our programs in this building, and significant contributions are made to energy saving. "This gives us additional happiness," he said.

Stating that they care about quality rather than quantity at ETÜ, Rector Çakmak emphasized that their main goal is to produce qualified and well-equipped graduates and said: “We attach particular importance to the fact that our students are sought-after employees when they graduate, rather than looking for them. We want our students to receive qualified and quality education in all our faculties. At this point, of course, the quality of our professors is very important and we subject our professors to certain appointment criteria. Our appointment criteria also bring competence. For this reason, we especially prefer our friends who meet these criteria,” he said.

In the last part of his speech, Rector Çakmak mentioned that they offer various social, cultural and sports activities to students throughout the year and said that an orientation program will be held in the faculties as of the second week and said: "We are organizing orientation programs to introduce both our university and our city to our students. During this process, our students are given comprehensive information about what opportunities will be offered to them by their advisors. Our entrepreneurship center, clubs, tournaments, festivals and many other events are organized for our students. He concluded his speech by saying, "On this occasion, I wish them success in the new term and a healthy education period."
