The project, in which Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Mechanical Engineering faculty members Prof. Dr. İrfan Kaymaz, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Korkmaz, and Dr. Fahri Murat participated, was awarded support under the TÜBİTAK TEYDEB 1507 SME R&D Startup Support Program. This marks the first time ETU has participated in a TEYDEB-supported R&D project led by faculty members.
The project titled “New Generation Distractor Design Following Anatomical Curvature for Mandibular Distraction” will be carried out under the leadership of ADD4BIO Medical Advanced Technologies Industry and Trade Ltd., operating in AtaTeknokent, and in partnership with Distrak Medical Products Industry and Trade Ltd.
The project aims to design and prototype a next-generation distractor system capable of dynamically following anatomical curvature, eliminating the limitations of traditional linear distractors used in mandibular distraction osteogenesis (jawbone lengthening). The innovative design will feature a versatile mechanism capable of curvilinear advancement, improving patient comfort while making the bone formation process more natural and physiological.
The project, developed at ETÜ laboratories, will not only offer a significant technological innovation in the field of medical devices, but will also contribute to strengthening university-industry collaboration and developing the domestic medical device production infrastructure.
