Cebrail Gençoğlu, one of the faculty members of Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Faculty of Sports Sciences, won the silver medal in the World Kick Boxing Seniors Championship.

In the championship organized by the World Association of Kick Boxing Organizations (WAKO) in Albufeira, Portugal, where approximately 2000 athletes from 70 countries competed, Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Youth Sports Club Athlete and ETU Faculty of Sports Sciences Coaching Department Faculty Member, Dr. Lecturer Cebrail Gençoğlu, who sweated in the 63 kg Kick Light category. Prof. Dr. Cebrail Gençoğlu reached the final and brought the silver medal to Erzurum.

ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, who welcomed the national athlete returning to Erzurum with flowers at the airport, congratulated National Athlete Gençoğlu and said: "Cebrail is a successful athlete in the ring as well as in the academy. He has repeatedly taken the top step of the rostrum and represented our country and our city in the best way and made the whole world listen to our National Anthem. Cebrail's achievements do not surprise us, as everyone knows how hard he works. On this occasion, I sincerely congratulate him and his technical team once again and wish him continued success."

The successful athlete thanked Rector Çakmak and the delegation who came to welcome him, stating that he will continue training without a break: "Our goal was to defend our title and return to our country with a gold medal, but it didn't happen. This is part of the nature of sports. However, this motivates me more. I will work harder for next year and bring the gold medal back to our country where it belongs. Now we will focus on the tournaments and championships on our calendar and work with all our strength to return with the best result. In this process, I would like to thank once again our Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality President Mehmet Sekmen, our Club President Ahmet Dal, our Governor Mustafa Çiftçi, our Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, our Provincial Director of Youth and Sports Birdal Öztürk, our Director of Sports Services Ahmet Çelebi and everyone who stood by us with their prayers."
