Erzurum Technical University (ETU), Faculty of Science, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics 4th grade student Meryem Payveren and her teammates won the first place in the Fujifilm Innovation Competition, titled "Bringing Waste Oils to the Circular Economy Using the Geographical Information System (GIS)".

In the competition organized by Fujifilm in order to reveal the uniquely designed, high added value and innovative projects of associate, undergraduate and graduate students since 2021, Meryem Payveren from ETU, Ahmet Fatih Akansu from Niğde Ömer Halis Demir University and Ali Eren Sarı from Süleyman Demirel University The project titled “Bringing Waste Oils to the Circular Economy Using GIS” won the other 1st prize.

ETÜ's Meryem, who stated that they were excited to be included in the Fujifilm Open Innovation Ecosystem as a team, said: "We will collect the idle oils in the households according to their quality with the vending system using GIS and bring them into the economy as biofuel. With our project, we aim to reduce carbon costs, minimize the damage to nature and the environment, and produce a sustainable biofuel. We will ensure that people play an active role in the project with the reward and loyalty program we will create in this process. The oils we collect will be separated according to their quality and used as raw material in the production of biogas, biofuel and biofertilizer.
