During the World Disabled Week of May 10–16, Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Faculty of Sports Sciences, in partnership with ETU Youth Office, hosted an awareness event for primary school kids with special requirements.
ETU students organised an event with the theme "Have Fun, Socialise, Gain Awareness," where they brought together pupils from Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Primary School and East Academy Special Rehabilitation Centre. The students engaged in games and varied activities, participating in the children's delight.
During the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevinc Namlı, a faculty member of Sports Sciences, highlighted the significance of children acquiring awareness from a young age. She emphasised that, in order to prevent children with special needs from experiencing peer pressure and bullying, it is essential for all children to develop empathy and awareness towards disabled individuals early on. Given this level of consciousness, our students successfully orchestrated a highly significant event today. Our children got the chance to acquire knowledge while enjoying themselves in each other's company.
