Damla from ETU is New Record Holder in Shooting

Damla Köse, a first-year student at Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Sports Sciences Faculty Coaching Education Department, became the new owner of the Turkish record in the Turkey Interuniversity Shooting Championship.

55 athletes from 19 different universities competed in the championship, which is included in the 2023 activity program of the Turkish University Sports Federation and was held at the shooting range of the Trabzon Provincial Directorate of Youth Services and Sports between 10-12 April.

Berat Kurt in the Men's Air Rifle Category, Helin Toprak, Zeynep Sude Kaya and Elanur Özdemir in the Women's Air Gun category, representing ETÜ in the competitions, while Damla Köse, Semanur Alpdoğan and Yeşim Yaşarbaş took part in the Women's Air Rifle.

Last year's Inter-University Shooting Championship record holder Damla Köse became the new owner of the Turkish Women's record with this year's 626.8. With this success, our student gained the right to directly participate in the World Inter-University Summer Games, which will be held in Chengdu, People's Republic of China, between July 28 and August 8, 2023. Damla Köse will represent ETU and Turkey in the Women's Air Rifle branch at Chengdu2023 with the goal of medals.

Damla Köse: “I Fulfilled My Dream”

Speaking after the match, champion Damla Köse stated that she achieved her first goal: “I am now opening up to the world and I will be chasing to break the world record. These degrees do not come easily, I have been working for years. I did my training in a seamless way, taking a break for only one day of the month. I am very happy that I have fulfilled another dream and that my efforts have paid off. In this process, my family has always been with me financially and morally. However, my success in this branch of sports was only when my path crossed with Erzurum Technical University. They give me every opportunity. My teachers and friends always motivate me. Of course, I would like to open a separate parenthesis for our Rector. I would like to thank him very much for the close attention he has shown to me and all my fellow athletes at our University.”.

Coach Çağlar: “We Have Been Working For 6 Years”

ETU Shooting Team Coach Mustafa Burak Çağlar, who expressed his happiness that the first place medal came together with the Turkish record, said: “We have been working with Damla for 6 years. Although this is a very short time for shooting, breaking the Turkish record is the biggest indicator of how talented and hardworking Damla is. In this process, I would like to thank our University and our Rector, who has always been with sports and athletes, for the opportunities and support he has given us. Hopefully, we will get similar results in the Olympics to be held in Paris in 2024 and we will return to our country with a medal.”

Rector Çakmak: “We are waiting for medals in the Olympics ”

Expressing that ETU has had significant achievements in shooting before, ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak: “I congratulate all our athletes who represent our university in the best way by participating in the championship. Damla continues on its way by increasing its success every year. I know you have an intense training schedule. Of course, this work inevitably brings success. Last year, the Turkish Record for Shooting Universities was achieved in its class; This year, the Women's Türkiye Record has arrived. I believe; World records will follow in the future. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him, our trainer Mustafa Burak Çağlar, and our Sports Sciences Faculty, which stands by our athletes with their support,
