ETU Academics Explained the Newly Opened Departments on TRT Radio

Erzurum Technical University (ETU) faculty members answered the questions of prospective students about the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Department of Architecture and Department of Emergency Aid and Disaster Management, which will receive their first students in the 2023-2024 academic year, as guests of TRT Erzurum Radio.

While the selection period for the new academic year continues, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eyüphan Manay, one of the faculty members of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Architecture, Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif Öztürk from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Emergency Aid and Disaster Management, Asst. Prof. Dr. Melikşah Turan gave information about the quotas, employment opportunities and courses to be given in the TRT Erzurum Radio Young Life Program for the departments that will admit their first students.

Pointing out that there have been significant investments in the field of aviation and space in our country in recent years Aviation and Space Engineering Department Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eyüphan Manay said: “Our graduates from the Department of Aerospace Engineering will have a wide range of employment opportunities, including the design, production, testing and R&D studies of all types of manned and unmanned aircraft. Our Aerospace Engineering Department, which is located in 11 state universities and 10 foundation universities in our country, is also the first and only in the Eastern Anatolia Region. Our department has a qualified academic staff and is getting stronger. Recently, there have been serious breakthroughs in the field of aviation and space studies in our country, and our country needs trained personnel in this field. In this direction, with the new term, we want to see our young friends in our department and invite them to work with us”.

Addressing the candidate students about the Department of Architecture, Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif Öztürk stated that they set out to train environmentally conscious architects. She said: “I see it as a very important advantage that the Department of Architecture is together with the engineering departments at ETU. We work in constant contact with engineering departments and this will be beneficial for our students to gain the habit of multidisciplinary work and to be aware of other departments. As the Department of Architecture, we have a quota of 20 people this year and our students will have wide employment opportunities when they graduate. Because as long as human beings continue to exist and live in this world, they will need schools, houses, hospitals, and all kinds of structures you can think of. In this respect, the profession of architecture is not a profession that can never be finished. I believe that we will spend a full 4 years with our new students who will be in the process of mutual learning”.

Finally, giving information about the Emergency Aid and Disaster Management department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Melikşah Turan said that the intense increase in the world population and the presence of living areas in risky areas increased the interest in the emergency aid and disaster management department. He said: “In our new department opened within the Faculty of Health Sciences, our students will be given 4-year undergraduate education. The aim of our department is to train national and international emergency aid and disaster management specialists, who can evaluate the damage caused by disasters, prepare the society for dangers, respond quickly to variable risk factors, form a resilient society, and especially have high-level capacity, knowledge, skills and equipment that can ensure the spread of disaster culture in society and develop it. In this direction, our graduates will have a wide range of job opportunities from AFAD presidency to AFAD provincial organizations, from provincial directorates to fire brigades, from the ministry of health to health directorates”.
