The research paper "Barrier in Truck Trailers," written by Instructor Ibrahim Semih TOPCUOGLU of Erzurum Technical University (ETU) and part of the TUBITAK-1005 project, has been accepted for patent registration by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
The subject of the evaluations was instructor İbrahim Semih TOPCUOGLU 's statement: "In traffic accidents that occur when another vehicle hits a truck trailer from behind, the vehicle that hits the trailer cannot stop, goes under the trailer, gets stuck in the empty space behind it, and is mowed down by the trailer." A metal bumper under the trailer is required by current traffic regulation 70/221/AT to protect the vehicle colliding with the trailer from behind in rear-end collision accidents; however, the amount of protection that bumper provides might vary depending on the circumstances of the accident. The incidence of fatalities and major injuries caused by rear-end collisions is alarmingly high. There is no room for individuals to live in the wrecked car since their interior is pressed up against the truck trailer, cutting down on the vehicle's capacity. In our nation, over 15,000 truck accidents and 20,000 vehicle accidents involving trucks and trucks result in fatalities every year. Among these incidents, around 20% include rear-end crashes. To address this issue and decrease harm and injury rates, a new generation of energy-absorbing bumpers has been created. The TUBITAK-1005 project encompasses the ongoing research and development of the bumper.
Tirsan Trailer, a prominent trailer manufacturer in our nation and Europe, is collaborating with us on this project as part of our university-industry partnership.
The project's deliverables play a crucial role in contributing to society. He stated that the goal of reducing accident damage and injury rates is to be achieved after the research and development process of the created bumper is finished and put into use.
