Teachers' Day Celebrated at ETU

A celebration program was held at Erzurum Technical University (ETU) on the occasion of November 24 Teachers' Day.

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ceren Sultan Elmalı, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences Prof. Dr. Birol Soysal, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Ümit İncekara, academicians and many students attended the program held at the Faculty of Science Conference Hall under the leadership of ETU Faculty of Sports Sciences.

Taking the floor to make the opening speech of the program, which started after a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Bedir emphasized that teaching is the most important profession in human history: "November 24th has been celebrated as "Teachers' Day" since 1981 on the occasion of the opening of the National Schools and Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's receiving the title of "Head Teacher" on November 24, 1928. The teaching profession is first and foremost a profession of ideal, purpose and service. The most important characteristic of a teacher is a heart full of love and a spirit of dedication. Dear colleagues, the words of the Chief Teacher Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, "The new generation will be your work, devoted teachers and educators of the Republic!" shed light on us. Let us not forget that it was teachers who raised Mevlana, Yunus Emre, Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli, Ahmet Yesevi, Mimar Sinan, Alpaslan, Fatih and Yavuz. With these feelings, I commemorate with respect, gratitude and mercy all our teachers who have passed away, especially the Chief Teacher Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and our martyred teachers. I congratulate all our teachers on November 24 Teachers' Day and present my respect and love."

After Bedir's speech, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Elmalı stated that teachers play a key role in shaping the society and congratulated all academics and prospective teachers on November 24th Teachers' Day.

Following the speeches, the event continued with a music concert and ended with the students giving roses to the academicians and taking a souvenir photo.
