At Erzurum Technical University (ETU), Urban Search and Rescue Strategies Training Started

The Urban Search and Rescue Strategies Training Program organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences Emergency Aid and Disaster Management Department of Erzurum Technical University (ETU) has begun.

The opening event of the Urban Search and Rescue Strategies Training supported by the TUBITAK 2237-A Scientific Education Activities Support Program, led by Dr. Assistant Professor Vildan Oral, a faculty member of the Faculty of Health Sciences Emergency Aid and Disaster Management Department, was attended by ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Cakmak, Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Elanur Yılmaz Karabulutlu, academics, and many students.

Praising the importance of evaluating the current urban search and rescue strategies used in earthquake response and addressing appropriate disaster response strategies at local, regional, and national levels for rescue organization, Rector Cakmak, speaking at the opening of the program, highlighted that this type of program is being held for the first time at ETU. He emphasized: "The earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş that we experienced last year showed us that we need to pay more attention to such topics. We were one of the first teams to reach the region after the disaster at ETU. Our colleagues touched many lives there. Our state and our nation united to overcome the disaster. During this process, we saw our shortcomings and weaknesses as a society in some areas. It is the responsibility of each of us to correct these deficiencies. Our hope is that such disasters do not occur. However, we must never forget that we always need to be prepared for such crises and disasters. In this sense, I believe that the event we organized will be very beneficial for both our students and our guests, and I thank everyone who participated in our program to share their knowledge and experience."

The program, which will continue for three days in the Faculty of Health Sciences Conference Hall, will provide practical and theoretical information on various topics such as medical intervention in rubble, coordination in search and rescue operations, international search and rescue organizations, volunteer organizations, and rubble marking systems by experts and academics.
