Climate Change and Its Effects were Discussed at ETU

A panel on Climate Change and Its Effects was held at Erzurum Technical University (ETU) within the scope of Turkiye Environment Week.

The event, organized by ETU Sustainability and Zero Waste Unit with the theme of "Clean Sea, Clean World" at the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Fatih Yetim, Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Dumlu, academicians and students.

Rector Çakmak, who took the podium to make the opening speech of the panel organized to draw attention to environmental pollution, stating that the panel is very important in terms of raising awareness said: “If you ask what is the strangest creature in the world, my answer will be human. Because we pollute the seas, we pollute the air, we pollute the soil, we pollute nature, we pollute the atmosphere. Now we have begun to pollute the space; As you know, the concept of space garbage has been talked about for a long time in the literature. In short, we first corrupt and destroy the universe, and then we try to fix what we have corrupted, by saying alas. As you know, this week, Emine Erdoğan, the wife of our President, made a statement. I would like to share a few sentences in her statement with you. “While all living things on earth leave traces of their kind, we humans leave traces of our civilization. On the one hand, magnificent architectural structures and works of art will remain from us. But on the other hand, we are about to leave mountains of garbage and even a seventh continent of waste in the ocean for future generations.” These words by her are one of the most beautiful expressions that we all have responsibilities. I believe that as world societies, as our level of consciousness increases, we will see the days when order and balance are established. On this occasion, I would like to thank Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nihal Gördes Aydoğdu and our panelists”

After Rector Çakmak's speech, the panel ended with the presentations on climate change and environmental pollution by Atatürk University Engineering Faculty Environmental Engineering faculty members Prof. Dr. Ergun Yıldız, Prof. Dr. Alper Nuhoğlu, Prof. Dr. Hanefi Bayraktar and Prof. Dr. Alper Erdem Yılmaz.
