Handicrafts Exhibited at ETU

Works prepared in the Kazaziye Art and Jewelry Design Course opened within the Health, Culture, and Sports Directorate of Erzurum Technical University (ETU) were exhibited.

Students and ETU staff showed great interest in the course opened to increase interest in disappearing handicrafts and to ensure the cultural continuity of Kazaziye Art. The products prepared in the course were exhibited at the Central Library and presented to the visitors' liking.

Stating that the Kazaziye Course is a first in Erzurum, SKS Branch Director Firdevs Nazan Soysal said: "Kazaziye Art is a cultural heritage left by the Lydians who ruled in Anatolia until 2800 BC to the people of these lands. Kazaziye Art, made entirely by hand, was used in the Ottoman period for decorating the sultans' kaftans and as jewelry. Sultan Suleiman was one of the Ottoman sultans who knew and practiced the Kazaziye Art. Nowadays, Kazaziye Art education is only available in Trabzon. We wanted to keep this culture alive in our city. During this process, our students created beautiful products with the guidance of our educator, Yasemin Şen."
