At Erzurum Technical University (ETU), a panel on "Coups and Democracy" was held as part of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day commemorations.
The panel, held in the Prof. Dr. Muammer Yaylalı Conference Hall, was attended by many academic and administrative staff members.
The panel, moderated by Prof. Dr. Yusuf Ziya Sümbullu, staff of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at the ETU Faculty of Letters, featured Associate Professor Dr. Oguzhan Ekinci from the Department of Psychology, Associate Professor Dr. Huseyin Aydogdu from the Department of Philosophy, and Assistant Professor. Mehmed Gokhan Polatoglu from the Department of History as panelists.
After the video presentation prepared by the Presidential Communications Directorate to commemorate the significance of the day, Prof. Dr. Sumbullu delivered the opening speech of the panel. He emphasized that the treacherous coup attempt against the national will should not be forgotten or overlooked: 'We all witnessed the events of July 15. Some of us took to the streets, while others experienced this sorrow and anxiety in our homes. But thankfully, those who set the trap fell into their own trap. In this sense, we strongly condemn those who attempted the coup. We pray for mercy for all our citizens who were martyred during this process and express our gratitude to our veterans. Hopefully, our country will never again face such a despicable plot.'
In the continuation of the panel, speakers provided information to the audience about coups, democracy, the risks coups pose to democracy, and coups in the world.
The program concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the panelists by the Dean of the Faculty of Letters, Prof. Dr. Ugur Akbulut.
