Erzurum Technical University (ETU) organized a panel titled "Opportunity Equality in Working Life" by the Directorate of Social Contribution and Equality Policies.
The panel, aimed at evaluating the opportunities for equality in working life and addressing the problems encountered, was attended by ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Çakmak, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Ali Fatih Yetim, Prof. Dr. Ceren Sultan Elmalı, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Engin Oner, academics, and a large number of students.
During the opening speech of the panel held at Prof. Dr. Muammer Yaylalı Conference Hall, Assoc. Dr. Burak Baskan, the Coordinator of Social Contribution and Equality Policies at ETU, stated that individuals from all segments of society face various disadvantaged situations in both their educational and professional lives. He said, "We are a newly established unit. However, we have immediately started our efforts to coordinate and plan social contribution activities at our university. We currently have ongoing social responsibility projects. In the upcoming period, we aim to expand our activities to cover our city and region as a whole. I wish our panel success and thank you for your participation."
Following Assoc. Dr. Baskan, Rector Cakmak emphasized the utmost importance of social contribution activities for institutions, saying, "As you know, our university has been accredited by the Higher Education Quality Board (YOKAK) for two years. This was a very important step for us. We were very pleased that the quality of our university in terms of education, research and development, social contribution, and corporate governance has been certified as ETU. During this process, every member of the ETU Family made significant contributions. The places we first took the delegation from YOKAK to in our university were the Mucitpark Science and Idea Workshop, Kristal Entrepreneurship Centre, and Erzurum City Archives (ERSA). The common feature of these three units is that they are important units in terms of social contribution. Of course, besides these units, we have many other social contribution activities. However, we had some deficiencies in coordinating these activities. In this regard, we aimed to bring together the work done by establishing our Directorate of Social Contribution and Equality Policies under the same roof. Issues such as equality and equal opportunities have always been topics of discussion. When evaluating the issue of equality, I believe that the concept of justice should also be taken into consideration. Because sometimes equality can be insufficient in terms of evaluating opportunities. These topics will be thoroughly discussed in our panel and will be beneficial for all of us. I would like to thank everyone involved in organising our panel."
Following the speeches, academics and experts on the panel provided information to the attendees about obstacles in working life, lack of experience in the career process, working life abroad, gender equality in society, women in the workplace, and the employment structure in earthquake cities.
