The "Historical Phases and Results of the Coups in the Republican Era" conference was held at Erzurum Technical University (ETU) as part of the 15 July Democracy and National Unity Day.

Dr. In his speech at the conference, Mehmed Gökhan Polatoğlu gave information about the management style of the new state established after the War of Independence in Turkey with the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the support of the Turkish people; With the 1921 Constitution, he mentioned the steps taken in the name of majoritarian democracy practices in line with the principle of "Sovereignty Unconditionally belongs to the Nation". Polatoğlu, who made evaluations about the transition to multi-party political life in the Republican Era and what happened after the establishment of the Democratic Party in 1946, talked about the 1960 coup and its effects, which is one of the turning points in the history of Turkish democracy, and the 1980 coup and the processes after it.
