Erzurum Technical University (ETU) students won the first medal of 2024 at TEKNOFEST, the world's largest aviation, space and technology festival.
In the “Natural Language Processing Scenario” category of the Turkish Natural Language Processing (NLP) competition organized at TEKNOFEST 2024, which includes technology competitions, air shows, concerts, interviews and various events, the team, which includes Ali Buğrahan Budak and Seda Nur Yazıcı, 4th year students of Computer Engineering at ETU Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, and whose team captain is Seda Nur Yazıcı, has achieved a great success by winning the third place in Turkey.
The 84 teams that made it to the finals among more than 200 teams participating in the competition realized the final stage live in Gebze Informatics Valley after about a month of intensive work. The teams presented their final presentations to the jury and the rankings were determined.
The project developed by ETU students aimed to associate the emotions in these comments with certain service aspects or product features through natural language processing techniques, using data obtained from customer complaint and feedback platforms such as “Şikayetvar”. Within the scope of the project, hundreds of thousands of feedback data were analyzed, the factors affecting customer satisfaction were identified and sentiment analysis was performed on these data. In this way, it was aimed to contribute to companies to improve their products and services by analyzing customer feedback in depth.
In the project, students performed sentiment analysis using BERT-based models and achieved high accuracy rates in analyzing Turkish texts. The project attracted attention with innovative approaches developed to classify and analyze customer complaints.
