Strategic Cooperation Protocol Signed to Support the Institutionalization of Historical Heritage in ETU Partnership

The "Eastern Front", which was strategically located for the protection of Türkiye's eastern borders in the process extending from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic and which was the scene of many battles in the name of defending the homeland in the process extending from the 93 War to World War I and the War of Independence, played an important historical role in the formation of national history and cultural memory. In particular, the struggle given by our ancestors along the historical line extending from Kop Mountain to Palandöken, Kargapazarı and Allahuekber Mountains has fulfilled an important historical mission in terms of keeping national consciousness alive in the future as it does today.
In order to protect this historical heritage, document it with scientific foundations and transfer it to future generations, an institutional cooperation protocol was signed between the Erzurum Governorship, Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality and Erzurum Technical University. The relevant protocol foresees supporting the work to be carried out towards the establishment of the “Eastern Front Historical Area Presidency” and carrying out various activities at academic, cultural and institutional levels within this scope.
In accordance with the protocol, the “Eastern Front Historical Site Presidency Workshop” will be held at Erzurum Technical University on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. The workshop will be attended by Çanakkale Governor Mr. Ömer TORAMAN, Çanakkale Wars Gallipoli Historical Site Presidency İsmail KAŞDEMİR, Advisor to the Minister of National Defense, Brigadier General Retired Necdet TUNA, Erzurum Technical University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naim ÜRKMEZ, General Director of Nature Conservation and National Parks Kadir ÇOKÇETİN, 9th Regional Director of Nature Conservation and National Parks Gültekin AKSAN, Sakarya Field Battle Historical National Park Director Ömer AYGÜL, Polatlı Historical Areas and Promotion Center (POTA) Director Retired Colonel Kadim KOÇ, 5th Regional Director of Nature Conservation and National Parks Kemal CAN, 13th Regional Director of Nature Conservation and National Parks Akif ÜMÜZER, Erzurum Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Ahmet YER, Prof. Dr. Murat KÜÇÜKUĞURLU, faculty member of Erzurum Technical University, Faculty of Letters, History Department, Anadolu University, Faculty of Tourism, Prof. Dr. Semra GÜNAY, and Prof. Dr. Şaduman HALICI, faculty member of Anadolu University, Faculty of Letters, History Department, Anadolu University, Faculty of Letters, History Department, will attend. The workshop aims to evaluate the historical, cultural, socio-political and ecological dimensions of the Eastern Front with an interdisciplinary approach and to prepare an institutional ground for conservation, promotion and scientific research to be carried out in this field.
The final report, which will be prepared after the sessions that will last throughout the day, will be shared with the public at 16.30 on the same day at Erzurum Technical University, Faculty of Letters/Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Muammer Yaylalı Conference Hall.
