The Study Conducted in ETU Laboratories Received a Patent

The study titled “Increasing Static/Dynamic Strength of Dental Crowns by Creating Different Surface Profiles with Selective Laser Melting (SLE)”, which was produced from the master’s thesis completed by Dr. Merve Taftalı Koseoglu, and carried out under the supervision of Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Vice Rector, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Ali Fatih Yetim, was registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office by earning a patent.

In addition, ETU faculty members Prof. Dr. Fatih Yıldız, Prof. Dr. Salih Akpınar and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yakup Uzun from Ataturk University also have rights to the patent.

Prof. Dr. Ali Fatih Yetim and Dr. Merve Taftalı Koseoğlu, who made evaluations on the subject, said: “Within the scope of this invention, selective laser melting method (SLE), which is a new generation additive manufacturing technique offered by developing technology, was used in order to improve the metal-ceramic connection of metal substructures produced with the existing classical method. Metal substructures with different surface profiles were designed and static and dynamic tests were performed on the designed metal substructures and compared with metal substructures (crowns) produced with traditional methods. With the crown with the newly developed surface profiles, the metal-based ceramic, which is exposed to pressure loads in an environment simulating chewing movements, improved the connection between the metal and ceramic crowns and increased their service life by increasing their resistance to loading conditions.
