In collaboration with Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Rectorate and ETU Faculty of Health Sciences, saplings were planted this year as part of the “Commemoration of July 15 Martyrs, Democracy and National Unity Day” activities.
251 pine tree saplings were brought together with the soil in the memory of 251 people who were martyred during the coup attempt on 15 July in the "Memorial Forest for the Martyrs of 15 July" located on the Erzurum Technical University campus. Many academic and administrative staff along with President of ETU Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, Vice Presidents Prof. Dr. Birol Soysal, Prof. Dr. İrfan Kaymaz, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Elanur Yılmaz Karabulutlu and Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuba Yetim attended.
President of Erzurum Technical University Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak who planted the first sapling on behalf of Martyr Petty Officer Ömer Halisdemir said: “We organise various activities to keep alive the events that took place on the night of July 15 and the cherished memories of our heroes who sacrificed their lives for the national unity and integrity of the country that night. As ETU, we have added a new one to our annual programmes. Our aim is to contribute to our integrity by keeping that night alive in the memories. On this occasion, I once again wish God's mercy and grace for all our martyrs and health and well-being for our veterans.”
