Erzurum Technical University (ETU) signed a new protocol with the Northeastern Anatolia Development Agency (KUDAKA) in order to strengthen cooperation between public, private sector and non-governmental organizations and to contribute to regional development.

Erzurum Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, ETÜ Technology Transfer Office Manager Ahmet Dumlu, ETÜ Continuing Education Application and Research Center (ETÜSEM) Manager Ahmet İlker Akbaba and Engineer Mehmet Karadişoğulları and KUDAKA Secretary General Oktay Güven and unit managers of the "Feasibility of Producing Value Added Textile Products from Domestic Wool Project" met to sign the contract.

Within the scope of the protocol signed in KUDAKA center; The feasibility of a production facility that includes the Wool Analysis and Product Development Laboratory and Weaving, Knitting and Dyeing Workshops, which are planned to be established in order to obtain value-added textile products from sheep wool, which is not evaluated in Erzurum and its region, will be made.

In line with the project, it is aimed to develop sheep farming, to obtain textile fabric from wool fiber, to carry out R&D activities on woolen materials, to reveal the financial value of wool fiber and to raise awareness on the subject. In addition, it is planned to establish a Wool Research Center within ETÜ to carry out innovation studies on wool and to bring in the manpower trained in this field.

Rector Bülent Çakmak stated that with the protocol signed between ETÜ and KUDAKA, there will be very positive reflections for the livestock carried out intensively in Erzurum and its region, and underlined that the product with the highest added value obtained from ovine animals is wool, but wool fiber is not used in the region. Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak: “Erzurum and its surroundings have been the center of agriculture and animal husbandry throughout history. We, as ETÜ, have intensified our work in order to revitalize this sector, whose importance has gradually decreased recently, and to achieve efficiency in every aspect. In this context, I believe that the protocol signed with KUDAKA will serve this purpose, and I wish the cooperation to be beneficial to both institutions and our city ”.
