Erzurum Technical University returned with an award from the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Global Final held in Shenzhen, China. The global final of the ICT Competition 2023-2024, organized by the Chinese tech giant Huawei, took place on May 26 in Shenzhen, China. The Computing Team, comprising Assistant Professor Merve Yıldırım from the Department of Computer Engineering at Erzurum Technical University, ETU students Kadirhan Ozdemir and Mehmet Emin Bastem, and Deniz Ozcan from TED University, achieved third place in the global competition, which saw participation from over 170,000 students from more than 2,000 universities.
This year's competition witnessed the highest participation ever, with participants from over 80 countries and regions. On May 24, Turkish Consul General in Guangzhou, Kaan Baskurt, met with the participating students and instructors. Emphasizing the importance of the Huawei ICT Academy and the ICT Competition organization, Baskurt wished success to the students who made it to the finals. Zhou Hong, President of the Huawei Strategic Research Institute, stated, "We believe it is vital to ensure that digital technologies are accessible to everyone so that everyone can truly benefit from the advantages brought by digitalization." Stefania Giannini, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education, said during the competition, which was organized in collaboration with UNESCO, "UNESCO is working to protect the fundamental rights and competencies of every learner and teacher in the use of digital technology and artificial intelligence. We aim to ensure an inclusive, equitable, open, and secure digital future for all. We thank Huawei for its support in this process."
Erzurum Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Cakmak congratulated the successful team and their advisors at the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Global Final. Prof. Dr. Cakmak presented certificates of appreciation and plaques to the team members and their advisors in recognition of their achievements.
