In the meeting hosted by Istanbul Technical University under the presidency of the Council of Higher Education President Prof. Dr. Erol Ozvar, the “Technical Universities Union” was established by 11 technical universities. The first Technical Universities Union meeting was held in Istanbul on February 3, 2025 and was attended by Erzurum Technical University President Prof. Dr. Bulent Cakmak.
The union, which aims to strengthen education, research, R&D activities and industrial collaborations among technical universities, aims to increase Turkey’s international competitive power in the field of science and technology.
In his opening speech at the meeting, the Council of Higher Education President Prof. Dr. Erol Ozvar stated that the Technical Universities Union will make significant contributions to the fields of engineering education, research culture and industry-university collaboration. Ozvar said, “As institutions that play a critical role in innovation and technology production, technical universities will support the development of our country with joint projects and research.”
To the Technical Universities Union; Istanbul Technical University, Erzurum Technical University, Eskişehir Technical University, Gebze Technical University, Karadeniz Technical University, Middle East Technical University, Bursa Technical University, Izmir Institute of Technology, Konya Technical University, Yıldız Technical University and Iskenderun Technical University were included.

The meeting also discussed the contribution of technical universities to green and digital transformation processes, the establishment of joint research centers and cooperation in international projects.
