Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Sekmen and Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak came together to exchange ideas for university-industry collaborations.

Mayor Sekmen and Rector Çakmak visited ETU to discuss the establishment of advanced technology factories planned in Erzurum. They explored the ETU High Technology Research and Application Center (YÜTAM), which focuses on high-value-added advanced manufacturing technologies and nanotechnology-based devices, aiming to contribute to the regional and national economy.

Rector Çakmak provided Mayor Sekmen with information about the 1000-class clean rooms used for the production of photonic technologies and solar cells. Later, he toured the Additive Manufacturing Laboratories, showcasing materials produced with laser melting devices.

Highlighting Erzurum's climate as highly suitable for producing micro and nano-scale photonic devices, Rector Çakmak stated, "YÜTAM has highly advanced infrastructure and laboratory facilities. We conduct scientific research and produce various materials here. In the coming period, we will be very pleased with the establishment of high-tech factories where R&D is done at our university and production is done in our city. We, at ETU, continue our efforts to be a part of the national technologies that add value to our country. This center was established with the funds of our nation and state. With this awareness, we keep our doors wide open to all stakeholders. We express our gratitude to Mayor Mehmet Sekmen for his efforts in initiating collaboration for the rapid establishment of advanced technology factories in our city."

In return, Mayor Sekmen thanked Rector Çakmak for his hospitality, emphasizing the significance of ETU for Erzurum and its region: "The work carried out at YÜTAM and the facilities it possesses are extremely valuable for our city and country. Rector Çakmak provided us with valuable information. I thank him and his team once again and wish them success in their endeavors."
