The 3rd “National Science High Schools Symposium,” organized under the leadership of the Faculty of Science at Erzurum Technical University, was held with the participation of students and teachers from various cities across Türkiye.
The symposium aims to strengthen scientific cooperation between science high schools and universities, bring young people together with academic research culture, and enhance institutional interaction.
The opening ceremony was attended by ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Çakmak, Erzurum Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Ahmet Yer, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Ceren Sultan Elmalı and Prof. Dr. Naim Ürkmez, Deputy Mayor of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Mehmet Akarsu, Deputy Director of Erzurum Provincial Directorate of National Education Dr. Caner Sunay, academics, teachers, and a large number of students.
“Science high schools are crucial for the country’s scientific future”
Speaking at the event, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Ümit İncekara stated that the symposium continues to grow each year with increasing participation. He emphasized the importance of involving young people in scientific production processes at an early age, noting that science high schools play a key role in the country’s scientific future. He added that students contribute to both their academic and personal development through the projects and presentations they prepare.
“We will continue to support innovative young minds”
ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Çakmak highlighted the importance of raising individuals who produce knowledge in the age of science and technology. He stated that the university will continue to support young people who are inquisitive, research-oriented, and capable of innovative thinking. He also noted that the symposium offers students an important opportunity to develop scientific curiosity and experience a university environment.
Over the two-day symposium, students presented oral and poster presentations on topics such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, the environment, sustainability, and various scientific innovations. They also participated in workshops, scientific activities, and professional talks.
