"Literature Talks in the 100th Year of the Republic" Program was organized at Erzurum Technical University (ETU).
Prof. Dr. İnci Enginün and Prof. Dr. Abdullah Uçman, who are among the sycamores of the field with their numerous works, came together with the students of the Faculty of Literature in the program organized in cooperation with the Faculty of Literature and ETU Turcology Club in order to bring students together with the important names of the New Turkish Language Literature.
Dean of the Faculty of Literature Prof. Dr. Uğur Akbulut, academicians and many students attended the opening of the program, which continued for 2 days at Prof. Dr. Muammer Yaylalı Conference Hall.
Speaking on the first day of the program, Prof. Dr. İnci Enginün began her speech by greeting the students as my young colleagues and then said the following "First of all, I would like to say that I am no stranger to the universities in Erzurum and university life here. I would like to say that I see this place as a continuation of Istanbul University, in which I grew up, and that I do not differentiate my colleagues and students here from those at Istanbul University in any way. That is why I accepted your invitation and came here, despite the fact that my age is not very suitable for such travels. These are a bit emotional words, but the field of literature is of course a field that can handle emotion very easily. In my speech, considering that we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Republic, I would like to briefly talk about the literary life and writers during the War of Independence. Of course, until I get there, I will make an introduction from the Constitutional Monarchy. Because the writers raised in the Second Constitutional Monarchy are the first writers of the Republican Period and they are the ones who brought the period of national struggle to the present day."
Prof. Enginün gave information about the 2nd Constitutional Monarchy Period, known as the National Literature Period in the history of Turkish Literature, the influence of the literary figures of the period on the establishment of the Republic and the value Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gave to the literary figures of the period.
In the last part of the interview, which was followed with interest by the audience, the students asked the veteran professor what they wondered about the period.
On the second day of the program, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Uçman gave information about the profession of journalism and its historical development in the Turkish Literature of the innovation period and talked about the differences between daily spoken language and written language in the Tanzimat Period.
The event ended with students having their books signed by the master author.
