TÜBİTAK High School Students Research Projects Competitions Started, Hosted by ETÜ

The opening program of the TÜBİTAK 55th High School Students Research Projects Erzurum Regional Competitions Exhibition, hosted by Erzurum Technical University (ETÜ), was held.

High School Students Research Projects Erzurum Regional Competitions Exhibition, which was organized to raise individuals with 21st Century skills who can produce solutions to the problems they will encounter in the future by encouraging young minds to think, observe, wonder and research what they are curious about, opened its doors to visitors with the program held at ETÜ.

While there are 23,066 project applications across Turkey in 12 fields: Biology, Psychology, Geography, Sociology, Values Education, History, Physics, Technological Design, Chemistry, Turkish Language and Literature, Mathematics and Software, Erzurum Region ranks first with 3,539 projects.

The opening program of the event held at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture was attended by Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi, Erzurum Technical University (ETÜ) Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, Atatürk University Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşe Bayrakçeken Yurtcan, TÜBİTAK Project Competitions Erzurum Regional Coordinator Prof. Dr. İrfan Kaymaz, Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality General Secretary Zafer Aynalı, Erzurum Provincial Director of National Education Yakup Yıldız, academicians, teachers and many students.

TÜBİTAK Project Competitions Erzurum Regional Coordinator Prof. Dr. Kaymaz: Our Students Came Here After Going through a Very Difficult Period

TÜBİTAK Regional Coordinator Prof. Dr. Kaymaz took the podium to make the opening speech of the program sharing information and statistics about the competition process, and said: “Our students came here after going through a very difficult period. First of all, the applications were evaluated and subjected to a preliminary examination process. Then, the projects were evaluated by the jury members in terms of content, and 103 projects that were deemed successful were entitled to participate in the regional final. In the evaluations made here, we will select the projects that will participate in the Türkiye Final. Our students who rank in the Türkiye Final will have the opportunity to participate in international competitions. I hope that our projects from the Erzurum region will achieve significant success in the Turkey Final, which will be held in Ankara on 26-30 May. "I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your participation and wish success to all our students," he said.

Rector Çakmak: The Eyes of Our Young People Are Shining Brightly

Rector Çakmak, who came to the podium after Kaymaz, expressed his satisfaction in hosting the High School Students Research Projects Erzurum Regional Competitions and said: “When I see our young people with shining eyes in this hall, my hopes for the future of our country grow brighter. As we have all experienced closely, crimes against humanity are being committed in Gaza and innocent people are being murdered in front of the eyes of the whole world. But the world does not make a sound. Unfortunately, the powerful have their say and their horn is blown. Therefore, as long as you continue to transfer your work and efforts to science, technology, culture and art as it is today, your positive energy will spread to the universe, good will prevail over evil and justice will prevail in the world. As I conclude my speech, I would like to thank my coordinator teachers, Prof. Dr. İrfan Kaymaz and Prof. Dr. Birol Soysal, who contributed to the realization of the High School Students Research Projects Erzurum Regional Competitions, my project evaluator teachers, TÜBİTAK and you, the valuable participants, and wish success to our students competing in the regional finals," he said.

Governor Çiftçi: It is Admirable that Erzurum Region is the First

Speaking at the program, Governor Çiftçi pointed out that young people have competencies as well as their talents and said: "Every year, the number of students participating in competitions and fairs is increasing in order to broaden the horizons of young people, raise awareness in the field of science and technology, and support future scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs and technology stars." It makes our country and our people happy. It is also admirable that the first place in applying to the competition was in the Erzurum region. We expect the grandchildren of Erzurumlu Emrah, His Excellency İbrahim Hakkı, and Nene Hatun to achieve much greater success. Thank God, today our country has become able to produce its own technology with the outstanding efforts of many successful young people, and after many successful moves after our unmanned warplane Kızılelma, we are all happy that our national combat plane Kaan flew in the skies of our country recently. I would like to state that we need young people who will be tomorrow's İbn-i Sina, İbni Rüşd, Architect Sinan and Ali Kuşçu in every field, economically, technologically, militarily and culturally, as our country has no other possibility than being strong in its geography.” He used his expressions.

Following the speeches, the program continued with the ribbon cutting, and Governor Çiftçi and Rector Çakmak visited the stands one by one and received information from the students about the projects they developed.
