Saplings Met Soil at ETÜ on National Afforestation Day

In cooperation with Erzurum Technical University and Erzurum Regional Directorate of Forestry, many saplings were planted on the ETÜ campus on November 11, National Afforestation Day.

On the 100th anniversary of our Republic, 300 Scots pine, birch and maple saplings were planted on the ETÜ Campus within the scope of the event held simultaneously throughout Turkey in 2023 different locations with the motto "Breath for the Future, Breath for the Republic".

ETÜ Rector Prof. attended the event organized with the aim of increasing our country's forest area and tree wealth, re-establishing the disturbed balance between soil, water and plants by encouraging erosion control, improving biological diversity and protecting environmental values. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Ali Fatih Yetim, Prof. Dr. Ceren Sultan Elmalı, General Secretary Assoc. Dr. Ahmet Dumlu, Erzurum Forest Regional Deputy Director Muammer Tizi, academicians, students and many children and their families attended.

Speaking at the event, Rector Bülent Çakmak drew attention to the place of tree planting in our culture and said: “As you know, this event has been held every year since 2019. Today, we will plant 300 saplings together in the Growing Together Grove. This grove will grow together with our children and will be a breath of fresh air for our country. Just as you, our children, are the guarantee of our future, these saplings we plant will be the guarantee of our lands. On the other hand, our greening efforts on our campus are of course not limited to this area. In 2023, we planted 2000 saplings in various parts of our campus. We will continue our greening efforts without slowing down in the coming period. "Once again, I thank you all for coming here and participating in this meaningful event, and I wish our event to be beneficial," he said.

After Rector Çakmak's speech, Erzurum Regional Directorate of Forestry officials explained the points to be taken into consideration when planting saplings and the participants gave their life to the saplings by planting them.

The event ended with planting the saplings and taking a souvenir photo.
