Our National Team, which is in Group 3 along with Slovenia, Moldova and Poland, took to the court against Poland in the first match of the 2026 European Championship group qualifiers at ETU Sports Hall.
The match, which started at 16:00, was followed with excitement by Erzurum Governor Mustafa Ciftci, Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Sekmen, ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Cakmak, Erzurum Provincial Police Chief Kadir Yırtar, Erzurum Bar Association President Av. Mesut Oner, students and many citizens.
In the match, which attracted great interest from the people of Erzurum, our National Team lost with a score of 4-1.
Speaking after the match, Rector Cakmak expressed their great pleasure in hosting such an important organization and said: “We have been preparing for this match for a long time. The criteria for hosting a competition organized by UEFA were quite strict. However, under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Turan, one of our faculty members from the Faculty of Sports Sciences, all our relevant personnel worked devotedly for this job and completed the preparations. We really wanted to leave the competition, which attracted great interest from our fellow citizens, with a victory, but defeat is also in the nature of sports. On this occasion, I wholeheartedly wish our National Team success in the 2026 European Futsal Championship to be hosted by Lithuania and Latvia, and I sincerely thank all our personnel who contributed to the successful organization of the organization hosted by our university,” he said.
