Development Meeting Held in Italy for the “Smart Tourism” Project, in Which ETU Develops Digital Solutions

The second international meeting of the Erasmus+ project titled “Smart and
Sustainable Tourism for a Fair Future (Smart Tourism)”, which is carried out in
partnership with Erzurum Technical University (ETU) and aims to develop digital
solutions for sustainable tourism, was held in the city of Treviso, Italy.
Hosted by the Italian partner S.I.D.E.S. APS, the meeting was attended by project
partners from Türkiye, Belgium, and Spain. Representing ETU at the meeting were
Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dastan, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative
Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emirhan Kula, and Lect. Ali Necip Nursoy.
During the meeting, the digital tools developed within the scope of the project’s
sustainable tourism objectives were comprehensively evaluated. Emphasis was
placed on the “Green Tourism” approach, and strategies aimed at reducing the
environmental impact of tourism enterprises, protecting cultural heritage, improving
the tourist experience, and promoting sustainable practices that contribute to the
local economy were discussed in detail. In addition, a roadmap was shared
regarding how the digital tools will be implemented within the project, the pilot
application processes, and the design of training modules.
At the meeting, where ongoing efforts to guide tourism operators and disseminate
sustainable practices were discussed, an exchange of ideas was held on increasing
Erzurum’s tourism potential, and opportunities for cooperation with local and
international stakeholders were evaluated.
In his remarks about the project, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dastan stated:
“The digital solutions we are developing within the scope of the Smart Tourism
project will help tourism enterprises increase their environmental sustainability and
competitiveness. These tools will be tested by our students and local stakeholders
and transformed into real-life applications. This process will also enhance the
capacity of our students and local businesses to develop innovative solutions and
will directly support the modernization of regional tourism. Through the project,
participants who gain experience in both education and the sector will acquire
applied knowledge in line with international standards and will be able to produce
tangible outcomes in the field of sustainable tourism.”
