ETU Wrestlers Return from World Championship with One Gold and One Silver Medal

Students from the Faculty of Sport Sciences at Erzurum Technical University (ETU) achieved
a significant international success with the ranks they obtained at the 2026 FISU World
University Championship Combat Sports held in Brazil. Among the ETU students
competing in the championship, Alperen Atar became the world champion, while Emirhan
Kılıç won the silver medal.
Representing Erzurum Technical University at the 2026 FISU World University
Championship Combat Sports, which took place in Brasília, Brazil, between June 8-13, 2026,
students from the Department of Coaching Education made both ETU and Turkey proud with
their achievements.
Individual Achievements
 Alperen Atar (Gold Medal): Competing in the 86 kg freestyle category, the 1st-year
student from the Department of Coaching Education drew attention with his
outstanding performance. Defeating all his opponents, Atar reached for the gold medal
and became the world champion.
 Emirhan Kılıç (Silver Medal): The 2nd-year student from the Department of
Coaching Education won the silver medal and became the runner-up of the world with
his successful performance in the 97 kg category.
 Özlem Gürsoy: Competing in the women's 62 kg category, Gürsoy successfully
represented our country in the championship and gained significant international
experience.
Statement from the Rector
Evaluating the results, the Rector of ETU, Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, stated that the
achievements of the students in the international arena are a great source of pride for the
university and said:
"We are extremely proud that our students have successfully represented our country and our
university in one of the most important university sports organizations in the world. I
wholeheartedly congratulate Alperen Atar, who won the gold medal as the world champion,
Emirhan Kılıç, who secured the silver medal, and Özlem Gürsoy, who competed in the
championship and represented our university in the best possible way. I would like to thank
everyone who contributed to this success and wish our students continued and increasing
success."
