At the VIRTUS 2025 Mentally Disabled World Ski Championship held in France, Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Faculty of Sports Sciences Autistic National Athletes Aliye Zeynep Bingul and Muhsin Murat Bingul achieved another important success.
In the championship held at Tignes Ski Center, Aliye Zeynep Bingul, who competed in the Alpine Sliding Slalom branch, won the silver medal, while Muhsin Murat Bingul brought the bronze medal to our country. On the other hand, Muhsin Murat Bingül managed to climb to the second step of the podium in the Alpine Sliding Grand Slalom branch and become the world's second.
A welcoming ceremony was held at the airport for the twin brothers who returned to Erzurum from France with double medals, and ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Cakmak, as well as many academics and students were present in the area.
After the welcome, Rector Cakmak, who welcomed the National Athletes, the technical staff and the families of the athletes at ETU, expressed that they were very proud and said: “It is a separate source of pride for us that our athletes are students at our university. Our students returned from the world championship with medals last year. They did not surprise us this year either and made our country, city and university proud with the medals they won. Of course, the medals that each of our students win are extremely important to us. However, the success achieved by Zeynep and Murat, who fought under very difficult conditions, has a special meaning. We know very well what efforts are behind this success. On this occasion, I heartily congratulate our athletes, their families and coaches, and wish them continued success.”
Speaking after Rector Cakmak, Erzurum Regional Courthouse Chief Unal Bingul, the father of the National Athletes, thanked Rector Cakmak and the ETU Family for the welcoming ceremony and said: My wife and I brought our children to this day with great efforts. This is our home. We love ETU very much. You have embraced our children. They also worked day and night with trainers and achieved great success as a result of this work. Seeing our children at these points also moves us a lot. I would like to thank everyone who supported us on this path. We will continue to do our best for our children. The love and interest of good-hearted people like you also makes us very happy. With the results they have achieved in the last two years, our children have become the first athletes in the history of the republic to win second place in the world in this field. One of our biggest goals is to see our children compete in the Paralympic Olympic Games in 2030.”
