The solution developed by faculty members of the Department of Molecular Biology and
Genetics at Erzurum Technical University (ETU) has been patented by the Turkish Patent and
Trademark Office.
The invention entitled "A Solution Used in Procedures for the Isolation and Identification of
Proteins", developed by ETU Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics faculty
members Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Karataş, Prof. Dr. Serkan Örtucu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elanur
Aydın Karataş, has been approved as a National Patent.
Within the scope of the patent, a new solution has been developed for SDS-PAGE and
Western Blot methods, which are commonly used in the isolation, identification and
visualisation of proteins. The solution was obtained by combining the lysis buffer (RIPA Lysis
Buffer) and loading buffer (Laemmli Sample Buffer) solutions used in protein analyses.
Thanks to the developed invention, the fragmentation and loading processes, which are
normally carried out in two separate stages using two different solutions, can be performed in
a single step. In this respect, the solution in question can replace the RIPA Lysis Buffer and
Laemmli Sample Buffer products, which are available separately on the market, and can be
used on its own as both a fragmentation and loading buffer.
