Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Sustainability and Zero Waste Coordination Office organized the “Plastic Waste Management Seminar” within the scope of Turkiye Environment Week events.
ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Naim Ürkmez, academicians and students attended the seminar held online to raise awareness about sustainability, recycling and environmental awareness.
Speaking at the opening of the program, ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak drew attention to the fact that environmental sustainability has become a necessity rather than a choice today, saying: “Using our natural resources efficiently, minimizing waste, and leaving a more livable world for future generations is a common responsibility of all of us. In this regard, as a university, we act with this awareness and continue to organize practices and events that will raise awareness in our students and employees.”
Speaking at the seminar, Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Waste Management Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Ece Ümmü Deveci, emphasized the importance of establishing sustainable waste management systems and said: “Correct separation of waste, effective operation of recycling processes and increasing individual awareness are the most basic steps to be taken for an environmentally friendly future. Universities should take a leading role in this transformation.”
The seminar, which was followed with interest, ended with Prof. Dr. Deveci answering the participants' questions on the subject.
