Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Sustainability and Zero Waste
Coordination Office, in collaboration with ETU student societies Ecology and
Climate Club and Polar Research Club, organised a panel discussion titled
"Climate Change: Impacts and Search for Solutions".
The panel, organised to address the environmental and social impacts of climate
change in light of scientific data, discuss solution approaches from an
interdisciplinary perspective, and raise awareness on sustainability, was attended
by Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Ali Fatih Yetim, Prof. Dr. Ceren Sultan Elmalı, Prof.
Dr. Naim Ürkmez, Secretary General Prof. Dr. Ahmet Dumlu, and numerous
staff members and students.
Moderated by Associate Professor Nihal Gördes Aydoğdu from the Faculty of
Health Sciences, the panel featured Professor Fatih Tosunoğlu from the Faculty
of Engineering and Architecture, who discussed the impact of climate change on
extreme hydrological events, Dr. Handan Akalın, a lecturer at the Faculty of
Health Sciences, assessed the relationship between climate change and
nutritional processes. Meanwhile, Dr. Mustafa Cansaran Ertaş, Assistant
Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, informed the audience
about snow measurement, management, and approaches to water resources
under climate change conditions, while Prof. Dr. Tuba Yetim, Professor at the
Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, explained what needs to be done in
response to changing climate conditions on a global scale.
The programme, which participants followed with great interest, concluded with
the presentation of the DOA Return Machine, developed by the Ministry of
Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change to encourage the collection and
recycling of packaging waste, by students from the Ecology and Climate Club
and the Polar Research Club.
