The 3rd National Molecular Biology and Genetics Student Congress, organized in
collaboration with Erzurum Technical University (ETU) and Atatürk University, brought
together academics and students from various universities across Türkiye in Erzurum.
This year’s congress, hosted by Atatürk University, was attended at the opening ceremony by
ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Çakmak, Atatürk University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent
Çavuşoğlu, ETU Faculty of Science Dean Prof. Dr. Ümit İncekara, Atatürk University Faculty
of Science Dean Prof. Dr. Melda Şişecioğlu, as well as 600 scientists and researchers from 30
universities, along with many students.
The congress was organized with the contributions of the Molecular Biology and Genetics
student communities of both universities, ATAGEN and GEN AKTUEL. During the event,
current research, new methods, and academic developments in the field of molecular biology
and genetics were discussed from multiple perspectives.
In his opening speech, ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Çakmak emphasized that the field of
molecular biology and genetics plays a leading role in significant advancements across many
areas, particularly in health, agriculture, environment, and biotechnology. He stated:
“Science is the common heritage of humanity. Especially the field of molecular biology and
genetics is leading groundbreaking developments today in many critical areas such as health,
agriculture, environment, and biotechnology. This congress is not only a platform for sharing
scientific knowledge but also a valuable gathering where young scientists from different
universities come together to exchange ideas and lay the foundations for new collaborations.
The strong participation of students from universities across Türkiye in this third congress is
an important indicator of the growing interest in science, particularly in molecular biology
and genetics in our country.”
Following the opening speeches, the congress continued with presentations by Prof. Dr.
Fikrettin Şahin, Prof. Dr. Filiz Kuralay, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Katı, and Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Urartu Özgür Şafak Şeker, who provided participants with insights into current research in
molecular biology and genetics.
As part of the program, young researchers had the opportunity to present their scientific
studies during poster and oral presentation sessions. The papers presented at the congress will
undergo peer review and may be published in the Eurasian Journal of Molecular and
Biochemical Sciences.
