Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Faculty of Letters faculty member Prof. Dr. Murat
Kacıroğlu was deemed worthy of the Jun Special Award for his work titled "The Magnificence
of Primitiveness" within the scope of the 9th Mehmet H. Doğan Poetry Criticism Awards held
this year.
The awards ceremony, organized by the Nilüfer Municipality to raise awareness in the field
of poetry criticism and support the work of critics, was held at the Nazım Hikmet Culture
House. The program, which brought together prominent figures in Turkish literature, was
presented to a selection committee comprised of prominent poets and critics in the field,
who awarded Prof. Dr. Kacıroğlu's work the Special Jury Prize, a prize presented for the first
time this year.
The jury members' statement regarding Murat Kacıroğlu's work titled "The Splendor of
Primitiveness: Modernity, Modernism, and Critique of Modern Life in Turgut Uyar's Poetry"
included the assessment that "this work stands out with its development of new conceptual
suggestions in analyzing Turgut Uyar's poetics, its solid theoretical foundation, and its
success in explaining the relationship between poetic production and historical contexts."
In the program where many poets presented their works to the audience, Prof. Dr. Kacıroğlu
was presented the award by Nilüfer Mayor Şadi Özdemir, Jury President Metin Celal, and
members of the Selection Committee.
Speaking at the program, Kacıroğlu expressed his special significance for the award, saying,
"It was a great honor for me to be part of this ceremony, organized in the name of Mehmet
H. Doğan, a critic who left his mark on our literature, and to be deemed worthy of this
special award given to keep his memory alive. I will continue to serve Turkish literature with
the same enthusiasm and determination," and thanked the jury members.
