At Erzurum Technical University (ETU), the event titled “A Day with the Rector at ETU”
was organized through the collaboration of the Corporate Communication and Promotion
Directorate, the Quality Coordination Office, and the Quality Club. As part of the event, a
student participated in the Rector’s daily institutional activities and observed the university’s
administrative processes.
Gizem Nur Ünlü, a fourth-year student in the Department of English Language and Literature
at ETU, accompanied Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Çakmak throughout all of his official and
institutional duties during the day. Ünlü had the opportunity to observe the university’s
management processes on-site.
In the first part of the event, a senior management meeting was held with the participation of
the vice rectors and the secretary general. Topics on the university’s agenda, particularly the
spring festivals, were discussed. During the meeting, Gizem Nur Ünlü shared students’
requests and expectations, engaging in a mutual exchange of ideas.
As the program continued, a meeting on quality processes and accreditation studies was held.
It was shared that four departments at the university had successfully completed their
accreditation processes, and overall quality procedures were evaluated. Afterwards, a visit
was made to Erzurum City Hospital, where Chief Physician Dr. Mesud Fakirullahoğlu was
met. During the visit, evaluations were conducted regarding the internship processes and
practical training opportunities of students from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the hospital.
In his remarks following the event, Rector Prof. Dr. Bulent Çakmak emphasized the
importance of involving students in management processes, stating:
“Universities exist with their students. The participation of our students in these processes
contributes both to their personal development and to the institutional culture.”
Highlighting that the university’s fundamental approach is to support students in all areas,
Çakmak said:
“With the understanding of shaping the future together, we attach great importance to the
academic and social development of our students.”
Gizem Nur Ünlü, who accompanied the rector throughout the day as part of the event, stated
that closely observing university management processes was a valuable experience for her.
She noted that seeing the background of academic and administrative processes broadened her
perspective.
Expressing her goal of becoming an academician, Ünlü added that the event provided her with
significant motivation and increased her awareness of administrative processes.
