The project titled "Proposing an Innovative Isolator-Type Connection for Modular Steel Structures," led by Prof. Dr. Merve Maali from the Department of Civil Engineering at Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, has qualified to receive support for 18 months under the TUBITAK 1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program. In the project prepared with the aim of developing and applying a domestic model for the local development and application of seismic isolation/damping technologies, Assoc. Prof. Mahyar Maali from ETU, Prof. Dr. Fuat Aras from the Department of Civil Engineering at Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Yaman from the Department of Civil Engineering at Sakarya University Faculty of Engineering are involved as researchers, while Prof. Dr. Nurhan Kıshalı from the Department of Chemistry at Atatürk University Faculty of Science is serving as an advisor.
Commenting on the developed project, Prof. Dr. Maali said, "In order to rapidly construct permanent housing after an earthquake, it is aimed to dampen earthquake energy in the connection areas with an isolator-type connection for 'modular steel structures,' which are among today's leading approaches to new construction models and technologies. The project has significant gains in terms of being the first innovative connection model research on modular connections to be conducted in Turkey".
