Erzurum Technical University achieved great success in the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 European Final, winning the European Championship in Computing, third place in Innovation, and the Best Instructor awards.
The Computing team, consisting of students Mehmet Emin Bastem and Kadirhan Ozdemir under the supervision of Dr. Merve Yildirım, a faculty member in the Computer Engineering Department of Erzurum Technical University, secured the European Championship, earning the right to represent Turkey and Erzurum Technical University at the Global Final in Shenzhen, China, in May. The team received their awards at the European Final Ceremony held in Istanbul from Dr. Enes Eminoglu, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports. Erzurum Technical University students Meryem Yazıcı, Ilayda Ayvaz, and Kubra Keskin achieved third place in the Innovation category, while Arda Suerdem secured third place in the Cloud category, receiving their awards from Prof. Dr. Bulent Cakmak, the Rector of ETU.
Dr. Merve Yildirım, representing Turkey and Erzurum Technical University as the only female academic educator in Europe, was awarded the Best Instructor Award. Yildirım received her award from Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bahcekapılı, the Rector of Yalova University, during the ceremony.
Prof. Dr. Bulent Cakmak, the Rector of Erzurum Technical University, one of the special guests of the award ceremony, expressed his satisfaction with the university’s representation abroad, emphasizing the importance of such competitions for students’ careers. Cakmak stressed the significance of this success, contributing to the progressive vision of Erzurum Technical University, and wished success to the students and team leaders who will compete in the world final in China.
