Erzurum City Archieve Obtained a New Service Building

A protocol ceremony was held for the allocation of the mansion located in front of Erzurum Castle to Erzurum Technical University (ETU).

Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Sekmen and Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak participated in the ceremony and signed for the allocation of the mansion located in front of Erzurum Castle to be used by the Erzurum City Archive (ERŞA) established within ETU. The Vice Rector of ETU who is also responsible for the establishment of ERŞA, Prof. Dr. Murat Küçükuğurlu and Deputy Secretary General of the Municipality Murat Altundağ attended the meeting.

ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak thanked to Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Sekmen for his interest and sensitivity to the project, which is very important for Erzurum, and he  also expressed his pleasure for ERŞA, which was established within Erzurum Technical University Library and Documentation Department.

"Museum and Archive Units Will Be Established within the Body of ERŞA"

ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak stated that such a unit was established in order to bring to light many documents, photographs, sound recordings, films and similar documents regarding the history and culture of Erzurum, and that they will speed up their efforts to meet the past of Erzurum, which has a very important cultural heritage with its deep-rooted history. Stating: “Museum and archive units will be established under ERŞA in the mansion allocated by the Metropolitan Municipality. In the museum section, visual materials and objects about the history and culture of Erzurum will be exhibited. In addition, a virtual museum section will be created. In the archive section, all books and journals about Erzurum will be brought together and put into the service of researchers and public. "Meetings will also be held regularly about the history and culture of Erzurum," he said. Stating that a very important step has been taken for Erzurum, Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak thanked everyone who contributed once again and wished the protocol to be beneficial.

"Shedding Light on the History of the City"

Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mehmet Sekmen stated that they are working jointly with all stakeholders and  they will continue to produce projects for the development of Erzurum, which has an ancient tradition with a thousand-year history, Stating that they are happy to add a new one to these services, Mayor Sekmen said that they have taken another step in line with this purpose by allocating one of the mansions unearthed around Erzurum Castle within the scope of the Culture Road Project initiated to reveal the memory of the city. Mayor Sekmen also stated that he sincerely believes that the works to be carried out within ERŞA will shed light on the history of the city and wished that this cooperation would be beneficial for Erzurum.

The signing ceremony ended with wishes of goodwill.
