The Foundation of ETU Faculty of Sport Sciences’ New Service Building Has Been Laid
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new service building of Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Faculty of Sports Sciences was held.
The ceremony was attended by ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi, AK Party Erzurum Deputy Fatma Öncü, Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mehmet Akarsu, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, the city's administrative and military officials, as well as academic and administrative personnel.
Designed with energy efficiency in mind, the new Faculty of Sports Sciences building will have a closed area of 1,994 square meters and will house 3 training halls, 3 classrooms and 17 offices.
Rector Çakmak: “We are building a center where sports and science meet”
Speaking at the ceremony, ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak emphasized that the new building for the Faculty of Sports Sciences represents a step forward in the future of science and sports, saying, "This building, whose foundation was laid here today, will be a home where our students' hopes will flourish, their goals will blossom, and their success will be woven step by step. Last year, our university students became Turkish champions, winning a total of 76 medals in competitions organized by the Turkish University Sports Federation. This success is meaningful not only with the medals but also with the determination, discipline, and commitment of each of our students. We are laying this foundation to make this success sustainable and to cultivate more athletes and scientists."
Governor Çiftçi: Students Raised Here Will Proudly Represent Both Erzurum and Türkiye
Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi, in his speech at the ceremony, emphasized the value that the groundbreaking of the Faculty of Sports Sciences will bring to the city and its youth, saying, "We are gathered here today for the ancient and sacred city of Erzurum. Erzurum has been a significant center of science, culture, and sports throughout history. Now, we are stepping into a new era with a vision that combines sports with science in higher education. With the Faculty of Sports Sciences, a beginning that combines the energy of our youth with the power of science, allowing us to look to the future with hope, Erzurum Technical University is further advancing our academic and scientific capacity. Thanks to this project, not only will athletes be trained, but scientific research will also contribute to our country's sports vision in the fields of sports technology and health. The students trained here will proudly represent both Erzurum and Türkiye. I extend my gratitude to everyone who contributed to the creation of this project. I hope that the foundation will be built smoothly, completed without incident, and made available to the service of our youth." I hope so,” he said.
Following the speech, the foundation of the new service building of the ETU Faculty of Sports Sciences was laid with the prayer of Erzurum Mufti Yaşar Çapçı.
