Erzurum Technical University (ETU) Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. İrfan Kaymaz, and Prof. Dr. Birol Soysal participated online in the "Call for Justice and Human Rights for Palestine" hosted by Ostim Technical University. A statement was published after the call attended by 183 universities from Turkey. The published statement contained the following statements:
“Israel has added a new one to the practices against civilians and vulnerable Palestinians settled in the Gaza, to the violence, oppression, and attacks that destroy the right to life, killing, injuring and leaving many innocent civilians, including babies, children, women and elderly people, without a home.
Israel, which does not care about human rights, continues to kill civilians, seize their homes and lands, and destroy agricultural lands, without regard to infants, children, women and the elderly, through a systematic genocide in the eyes of the world community.
As university rectors, we appeal to the international community due to the ongoing bloody attacks:
Attacks, destruction and evacuations must be stopped within the framework of the principles of the United Nations (UN) international human rights law; The necessary support must be given immediately to the Palestinian society to create a sovereign state that guarantees their right to a dignified life.
International jurisdictions have ruled that they have jurisdiction in Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, which have been occupied by Israeli military forces since 1967. These decisions pave the way for Israel to be held accountable for the crimes it has committed in the Palestinian territories and to identify those responsible for these crimes. In this regard, we invite international human rights judicial institutions to fulfill their duties and stop the attacks by taking a clear stance against Israel's unlawful and inhumane oppression and attacks. We also demand that those responsible be tried and that the damage of the Palestinian people be compensated.
We, the signatories of this declaration, declare that we respectfully support Palestinians' struggle for dignity and protection of property rights, which are the most natural human right, and that we will always stand by them. In addition, we respectfully inform the international public that we are ready to undertake all humanitarian duties, including mediation, to stop the bloodshed and end the attacks on Palestinians. "
