The 2nd National Molecular Biology and Genetics Student Congress was held hosted by our faculty's Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.
The National Molecular Biology and Genetics Student Congress, organized for the second time this year within the scope of the project presented to the University Student Societies Cooperation and Support Program (ÜNİDES), brought together students, academicians and researchers from all over Turkey under the same roof.
Nearly 500 students and academicians from universities all around Türkiye participated in the congress held on May 2-3 with the cooperation of our faculty's Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics and the Genetics Club, and scientific sessions, oral and poster presentations were made with the participation of experts in their fields.
The congress was attended by Atatürk University President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, ETÜ President Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Ali Fatih Yetim, Prof. Dr. Ceren Sultan Elmalı and Erzurum Youth and Sports Provincial Director Levent Çakmur, as well as many academicians and students.
In his opening speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak stated that student-centered scientific activities are an important part of ETÜ's vision and said: “These congresses are not only scientific events, but also important steps where our students develop their research and communication skills and prepare for the future. With such programs, you both gain the habit of teamwork and internalize the culture of research. Therefore, I would like to state that we are very pleased with the traditional organization of the National Molecular Biology and Genetics Student Congress, organized in cooperation with our student clubs, the Genetics Club and our Faculty of Science. We will continue to provide the necessary support for this congress to become sustainable. On this occasion, I would like to thank all our students and professors who contributed to the organization of the congress.”
Participating in the afternoon session of the program, Atatürk University President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu emphasized that molecular biology and genetics are the science of the future and said: “Just as Türkiye’s geopolitical and demographic power will be decisive for the world in the future, molecular biology will also be at the center of the scientific world. Today, more than half of the publications in the field of pharmacology have become related to molecular biology. This rate will reach 70-80% in the coming years.” Stating that the material value of molecular biological products is rapidly increasing in Türkiye, President Hacımüftüoğlu said that biotechnological production will have a much larger share in the future. Expressing praise for the program, which was followed with great interest by students and academicians, President Hacımüftüoğlu thanked all students and academicians who contributed to the organization of such a high-quality and rich-content congress in Erzurum.
During the two-day congress, solutions offered by molecular biology and genetics in various fields such as health, agriculture, environment, microbiology and industry were discussed with student presentations in scientific sessions. In addition, the papers presented by the participants will be published in the Eurasian Journal of Molecular and Biochemical Sciences (Eurasian Mol Biochem Sci) after being evaluated by the scientific committee.
