Tubitak 2209/A Project Grant Success

We are thrilled to announce that our department has recently been awarded support for two remarkable research projects under the Tubitak-2209/A Program. These projects highlight the innovative spirit of our students and faculty and reflect the department’s commitment to exploring the dynamic intersection of language, literature, and contemporary societal changes.

1. The Language Learning Experiences of English Language and Literature Students During and After the COVID-19 Pandemic and the 2023 Turkey Earthquake: A Photovoice Study

  • Research Lead: Gizem Nur Ünlü
  • Advisor: Serap Atasever Belli

This pioneering study aims to explore the language learning journeys of our students through the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating 2023 Turkey earthquake. Utilising the photovoice methodology, this project seeks to give voice to our learners’ personal and collective experiences, offering unique insights into the resilience and adaptability of language acquisition processes during times of crisis.

2. Between Literature and Screen ‘Normal People’: A Comparative Study of the Novel and Series Adaptation

  • Research Lead: Umut Kulay
  • Advisor: Samet Baytar

In an engaging exploration of contemporary narrative forms, this project delves into the adaptation of literature into screen-based media, using the acclaimed novel and series “Normal People” as a focal point. By comparing the literary and televised versions, this research will shed light on the nuances of storytelling across different mediums, offering a critical perspective on how narrative elements are transformed and experienced by audiences in the digital age.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the research leads, Gizem Nur Ünlü and Umut Kulay, and their advisors, Serap Atasever Belli and Samet Baytar, for securing these grants. Their dedication and innovative approaches promise to contribute significantly to our understanding of language, literature, and media. We eagerly anticipate the outcomes of their research and the potential impacts on academic discourse and beyond.

Stay tuned for further updates and insights into these exciting projects as they progress.
